“A lover of dry and scorching climates, this invasive and non-native plant will not be welcome,” the municipality of Totally introduced as a part of an uprooting drive on the finish of 2022, The Guardian reports.

The crops, which have been current because the 18th century, are spreading considerably in some Alpine areas of Switzerland and Italy. Yann Triponez, a biologist who works within the canton of Valais’ nature safety service, stated that “in some components of Valais, we estimate that the cacti can occupy one-third of the out there floor,” per The Guardian. 

While these crops choose scorching climates, they’ll cope in temperatures as little as -15C (5 levels Fahrenheit), botanist Peter Oliver Baumgartner informed the Guardian. 

What they do not like, he stated, is moist climate. So, diminishing snow cowl gives a fertile setting for them to thrive.
