The plumber who found hundred of envelopes containing checks in cash hidden in a wall at celebrity pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston will obtain $20,000 for his discovery, an area group mentioned.

The person, recognized by NBC Houston KPRC as Justin Cauley, first talked concerning the discovery after calling right into a Houston morning radio present on Thursday. He mentioned on Nov. 10, he was doing upkeep in one of many church’s bogs, and when he went to take away a rest room “about 500 envelopes fell out of the wall.”

It turned out that the cash within the envelopes was stolen from the church again in March 2014, in accordance with Crime Stoppers of Houston. The group mentioned roughly $600,000 was stolen on the time.

When the stolen cash was reported over seven years in the past, Crime Stoppers of Houston provided a money reward of $5,000, and Lakewood Church added a further $20,000 to the reward. Two years later, the church determined to only donate the $20,000 to the group.

After Cauley found the cash, KPRC reported Crime Stoppers of Houston mentioned the plumber wouldn’t obtain the award due to the statute of limitations and different components. The group has since modified course, deciding to award Cauley $20,000.

“In 2014, Lakewood Church gave us $20,000 to work on this case. In 2016, they selected to present us these funds for operations. Immediately, we’re gifting that very same (quantity) of cash to this Good Samaritan and wishing he and his household a beautiful vacation season.” Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious said in a statement.

The group mentioned Mankarious requested the group’s management and regulation enforcement if the award might be given.

“Crime Stoppers of Houston is a public security group that thrives on the general public security of all communities. We imagine that it takes all of us, working collectively, to maintain Houston protected and thriving,” Mankarious mentioned.

Cauley advised the outlet the award goes to “assist tremendously” as “payments are stacking up.”

“I’m making an attempt to make the very best of it, and in the present day the sunshine shined by,” he mentioned.
