Russia is dropping bunker-buster bombs on a metal plant within the southeastern Ukrainian metropolis of Mariupol the place troopers and residents have been hiding, a Ukrainian navy commander stated.

Denys Prokopenko, the commander of the Ukrainian Nationwide Guard’s Azov Regiment, stated on Monday that Russia had began dropping bombs on the Azovstal Iron and Metal Works plant, the Associated Press reported.

Prokopenko stated his troops had been there alongside civilians.

The plant contains underground tunnels, and Mariupol’s metropolis council said on Telegram on Monday that as much as 1,000 residents had been additionally hiding there.

Prokopenko stated Russian troops had been conscious that civilians had been hiding there, and firing anyway: “Russian occupational forces, and their proxy… know concerning the civilians, they usually preserve willingly firing on the manufacturing facility,” he stated.

Russia has ordered Ukrainian troopers left in Mariupol to give up, however they’ve refused.

Yan Gagin, an advisor to the Russia-backed separatist forces in Donetsk, told Russian media outlet Ria Novosti that the metal plant is “mainly one other metropolis” beneath Mariupol, and that it was constructed to face up to bombings.
