A US Air Pressure pilot managed to seize a selfie with a high-altitude Chinese language surveillance balloon the day earlier than it was shot down over the Atlantic Ocean earlier this month, the Pentagon confirmed on Wednesday.
A U-2 Dragon Girl spy airplane beneath US Northern Command authority was despatched to observe the balloon because it flew over the continental US through the last days of January and into early February. A pilot took an image of the balloon from the cockpit, and it started circulating on-line earlier this week.
Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh informed reporters at a Wednesday briefing that she will “affirm the photograph’s authenticity, and we’re planning to launch it,” when requested in regards to the selfie.
Insider obtained a duplicate of the selfie from the Air Pressure, which mentioned the photograph was taken over the “Central Continental” US on February 3, a day earlier than it was shot down by an F-22 Raptor off the coast of South Carolina. The picture has since been launched on the Protection Visible Data Distribution Service.

The U-2’s involvement in gathering intelligence on the spy balloon was first reported by The Drive on February 6. CNN later reported two days later that the selfie really existed. Officers informed the outlet that the photograph had “already gained legendary standing” at North American Aerospace Protection Command and within the Pentagon. Dragon Girl Right now managed to get ahold of the picture and published it on February 21, a day earlier than the US army confirmed its authenticity.
U-2 spy planes are single-seat aircraft that may present surveillance and reconnaissance from extraordinarily excessive altitudes at over 70,000 toes. Due to this, pilots usually put on full-pressure fits like these worn by astronauts.
