Turkish police have arrested a person recognized as one of many prime suspects within the July homicide of Haitian president Jovenel Moise.

The suspect, recognized as Samir Handal, was arrested at Istanbul Airport on Monday on arriving from the US and transferred to jail, the place he might be held for 40 days, Turkey’s DHA personal information company reported on Tuesday.

Handal had Haitian, Jordanian and Palestinian passports on the time of his arrest, DHA stated, although his age and nationality weren’t given.

Haitian International Minister Claude Joseph tweeted that he had phoned his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu to thank him for arresting “one of many individuals of best curiosity to the investigation” into Moise’s dying.

Moise was shot on 7 July at his dwelling in Port-au-Prince and whereas dozens of individuals have been arrested, the id of those that ordered the assault stays a thriller.

Final month, a former Colombian navy officer needed by Haitian authorities over the assassination was captured in Jamaica.

Three Colombians have been killed by Haitian armed forces responding to the assault and 18 extra have been detained, alongside two US residents of Haitian descent.

The assassination deepened an already dramatic disaster in Haiti, which is affected by an absence of safety, hovering gang violence and a spate of kidnappings.
